LES FILMS DE SAINTE-ORLAN, one of the most important artistic events of 2021 in Romania, initiated and organized by SPACE INTACT and FEDERATION CENTER OF INTEREST, took place at Centrul de Interes / Center of Interest in Cluj-Napoca, at the end of last year.




LES FILMS DE SAINTE-ORLAN was an exhibition-event that proposed "a close-up view of the film as image, of the film as idea, and video as possibility in the way they are instrumentalized by one of the most important contemporary French artists. ORLAN works with the self-image, with the image itself proposing plausible but absent narratives, auto-hagiographic fictions tailored in a cinematic manner. For ORLAN, film is a possibility explored in all its dimensions: as a medium and as an artistic expression, as an image that cannot be reduced to its mediality, as an (unresolved) problem of representation, but also as a potential instrument of manipulation, as a narrative fiction and body fictionalization", we found out from the project team.



The exhibition LES FILMS DE SAINTE-ORLAN included video works produced in the last 30 years, film posters featuring real but absent famous characters, posters of films that actually doesn’t exist, soundtrack of films that will never be made, and a series of “hybrid” portraits of the artist, some of them extended in Augmented Reality. A call for film scripts, open to the public, sought to bring together scenarios (included later in the exhibition catalog) that went the other way, from the poster to the idea. ORLAN was present in Cluj at the time, participating at both the exhibition opening and the round-table in the exhibition space.

"Art in Social Media" is the thematic proposed for the 12th edition of the Itaú Visual Arts Award created in Buenos Aires, in its Art and Technology section. The category, inaugurated six years ago, aims at the visibility and reflection of artistic proposals by emerging Argentine artists conceived for new media and materialities. The finalists are part of an interesting exhibition at Espacio Byte, an online museum dedicated to Argentine and international digital art.

The selected works are based on the role of social media during the pandemic, fostering the connection between people, and a way of relating to the world unthinkable a few years ago. Social media was the main, and perhaps the only, way in which people could -and had the need- to show their personality, and thus relate to their environment. The most interesting thing about "Art in Social Media" is that the works are placed in different social media and other interactive platforms to intervene directly on the medium, and at the same time reflect its interactive nature.

On the first floor of the Contemporary Art Museum of Rome is found the MAXXI, where one can visit the exhibition about some great women architects from all over the world. From December 16th to September 11th “Good News” will show the research of the Architecture Department of MAXXI about some great female names of the history of this discipline, always related to men.

The exhibition is developed in five sections, thought by the three curators - Pippo Ciorra, Elena Motisi, Elena Tinacci – to give the opportunity to these architects to show their skills, their histories and their works in a prestigious and modern environment.

The first section called “Stories” is an archive with all the stories of architects like Charlotte Perriand, Elizabeth Diller and collectives of 40 years ago. The second area – “In practice” – shows the works of female modern architects from all the corners of the world, and these stories are explained by female experts of architecture in the third section, where visitors can listen to their words through monitors.

In the other two sections, there are shown the video projects of some collectives - who had to think about the idea, given by the curators, about “gender and space” - and the commissioned work of the promising Mexican architect Frida Escobedo, who realized a video project about the tapestry installation made reinterpreting a drawing of the German designer Anni Albers.

The exhibition, set up by the Italian architect Matilde Cassani, is great at ordering and showing these new ideas, roles and concepts brought by these architects, especially focused on sustainability, new technologies and materials and spaces to rethink and rebuild for everyone.

    NOTES FROM PUBLIC WALKS is a laboratory-exhibition by Sabine Zahn, with a public walk by Florin Bobu and Cătălin Gheorghe, as the project team named it, and it is a contemporary art project that recently took place at Aparte Gallery / Faculty of Visual Arts and Design in Iași, Romania.

    “Expanding the city in four steps is an invitation to create the city on your own. You can literally take the workshop-book and go through it to see what inspires you in thought and action. Some of the instructions in the book are chosen to be tested in the city of Iasi: you can choose some cards and take them with you to try to work on the instructions”, we find out from the project team.

The materials came from the Stadterweitern project in Berlin in 2020, and were meant to travel and be applied in different urban situations by anyone interested in changing relationships and therefore space. Iasi is the first place where it traveled in the physical format of the book and the space. More information can be found on stadterweitern.de 

One of the recently concluded projects at Centrul de Interes in Cluj-Napoca, Romania is ”Monochrome Stories. The Antal-Lusztig Collection. Debrecen”, which presented a selection of works from the biggest private art collection in Hungary: The Antal-Lusztig Collection of Debrecen. The exhibition brought together 40 international and Hungarian artists.
